Option 1: Edit the Windows Registry (using Shift+Restart)
This method allows you to log in with your password and then set up a new PIN.
- On the sign-in screen, click the power icon, hold down the Shift key, and select Restart.
- Keep holding the Shift key until the "Choose an option" screen appears.
- Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
- In the Command Prompt, type regedit and press Enter.
- Change drive letter to C:
- In the Registry Editor, click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the left pane.
- Go to File > Load Hive.
- Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config, select the software file, and click Open.
- Type Msoftware in the box that appears and click OK.
- Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Msoftware > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion.
- Find and select the PasswordLess > Device folder.
- Double-click DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion and change the Value data to 0. Click OK.
- Close the Registry Editor and all other windows.
- Click Continue on the "Choose an option" screen to restart the computer.
- You should now be able to log in with your password. From there, you can remove the old PIN and set up a new one in Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
